# Encumbrance

## Encumbrance

A player carrying near their limit moves slower.

```lua
Config.Encumbrance = {
    enabled = true,
    from    = 0.85,   -- penalty starts at 85% of max weight
    slowest = 0.82,   -- move rate at 100% — 18% slower
    stamina = true,   -- also drain stamina faster
}
```

Below `from` there is no penalty at all. Between `from` and full, the movement rate scales down to `slowest`. The effect is deliberately small: it should make a full bag *feel* heavy, not turn the last 15% of capacity into a punishment.

{% hint style="warning" %}
The penalty is worked out from the player's **own bag** — its weight against its limit, a worn bag's extra room included. Items in a stash you happen to have open are not carried and do not slow you down.
{% endhint %}

#### Why it is applied every frame

GTA resets `SetPedMoveRateOverride` continuously. An early version of this feature decided *and* applied the rate once a second, and the game simply overwrote it — the setting looked correct in config and did nothing in play.

The two halves are now split: the decision runs at 1 Hz (it is the expensive part), and the result is re-applied every frame. If you are diagnosing this, `invweight <playerId>` reports the move rate worked out from what you are carrying **and** the rate actually held on the ped, so a mismatch is visible rather than inferred.
